I have written my debut novel, The Recipient of Guilt, about a journalist with epilepsy who struggles to keep his alcoholic father's erratic behavior out of his own newspaper's headlines. The protagonist also tries to keep his father out of the court system and out of jail. I hope to find a mass audience for this work soon. My experience in newspaper print and online writing served me well in taking on this project, which is complete at 86,000 words.
As a journalist, I handled any and all writing assignments under tight deadlines. My award-winning work for the Erie Times-News and GoErie.com included quick turnaround pieces as well as longer projects that required weeks, and sometimes, months of research and interviews.
For more than five years, I worked on a variety of freelance assignments. That work included entertainment columns and stories and business pieces for the Erie Times-News/GoErie.com. I also provided extensive content for Turn Two Communications, which operates out of Erie and Washington, D.C.
For Turn Two, I'worked on a variety of assignments including business blogs, press releases, work on Erie's newly formed community college and a congressional campaign.
I also researched and wrote a booklet for the local YMCA's 160th anniversary, which was presented to Y members and donors.
From press releases to annual reports, and everything in between, I can help you meet your goals and objectives.

John’s writing never ceases to impress me. He dives into tough, multi-layer topics and doesn’t stop researching until he has a solid handle on the material.
The result is always a clear, concise message packed with insight, meaningful details, and supporting content from voices that matter.
Add to that John’s easy personality under pressure, and you have a solid writer valuable to any team.

public relations consultant, Erie
John distinguished himself as a gifted writer and reporter during his long tenure at the Erie Times-News.
He is efficient, tireless and professional.
He served as chief political reporter and led our political writing team, informing our readers about the most important issues and events in Erie, Harrisburg and Washington, D.C.
And it's no surprise that I've enjoyed working with him as a freelance writer, too.
-- Doug Oathout, former executive editor, Erie Times-News/GoErie.com
